SIGNALS ON THE ECONOMY Reports will include the minutes of the Sept. 16 meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee and consumer credit for August (Tuesday); pending home sales for August (Wednesday); wholesale trade inventories for August (Thursday); and the trade deficit for August (Friday).
CORPORATE EARNINGS It is a light week for earnings reports, with announcements coming from Alcoa, Safeway and Yum Brands (Tuesday); Costco and Monsanto (Wednesday); and General Electric (Friday).
THE REGULATORS Paul A. Volcker, a former Federal Reserve chairman, and Roger W. Ferguson Jr., a former Fed vice chairman, will speak at a news conference held by the Group of 30 consulting group in New York (Monday).
