Is it illegal to steal sensitive government information from the Central Intelligence Agency and sell it to a foreign power? Is it illegal to steal sensitive information from the Central Intelligence Agency and leak it to the press? The same question applies to any employee of any government agency or department. Motivations of "whistle blower", greater good, or any altruism have no standing in law on such matters and penalties are severe despite Obama's efforts to water them down. Whoever leaked the Flynn information was committing a crime plain and simple. It is correct that the alleged Flynn communications with the Russian ambassador be studied for transgressions of their own but leaking raw Intelligence data merits the same scrutiny. Flynn has paid a price although I question whether such communication was of great gravity or just a continuation of transparent relationships preceding the election. My question is why not? Isn't an ambassador for communications? Yes it is not right to discuss policy, like sanctions being lifted or suchlike, but where is evidence of that? If Democrat supporting employees of intelligence or law enforcement made a conscious decision to publish information on active investigations, they should be easy enough to find, charge, prosecute, convict and punish. It is akin to treason. Certainly theft of government property and just plain wrong! It seems probable retribution for Flynn's rather sceptical opinion of intelligence operations' credibility and anti-Trump grudge based disclosures to embarrass the administration. This is just another level of liberal elite activism in high places. Un-American is an understatement and polite way to say lying stealing traitor and scumbag.
